Our enthusiastic after dinner speaker on 20th February, Pauline Alvis, is a cheesemaker, as was her mother before her. Pauline described her life at Lye Cross Farm and the cheese making process where tradition meets the modern day. Our members enjoyed samples of cheddar cheese made on the farm and Pauline also brought some curds and whey and “squeaky cheese” – which was surprisingly sweet – produced during the cheesemaking process. The finished result was of course delicious.
In her spare time Pauline is also a member of IW Wrington. She also promotes the charity FarmLink which she and her husband set up to encourage young children to discover where their food comes from. Farms all over the country take part and invite local schools to visit as part of their school curriculum.
