Chelwood Bridge Inner Wheel members were delighted to welcome the talented Hazel Williams from Paulton as their special guest at their last meeting held in Cameley Lodge.
Hazel, who writes fabulous poetry, moved from Devon, where she had worked for the North Devon College, to Paulton, several years ago and has been busy ever since, as she joined in all that the community had to offer her.
After arriving in Paulton, Hazel became a member of the local Lions club, but had to give that up for health reasons. She also became a member of Paulton Amateur Dramatic Society ( PADS) but gave that up too when she started a drama group for Norton Radstock U3A, which she ran for five years, before she also gave that up for health reasons. It is now run by Gwen Hoskins.
She is an active member of the U3A and has been secretary of Holy Trinity PCC, Paulton, for some time.. At the moment the church is trying to raise £30,000 for the repair of the church organ. She said ; “ I have been donating any money , which I raise with my poetry sessions , to them this year although I usually give it to the U3A for that year’s charity.”
She also runs the creative writing group but not the poetry group as that happens on the same day, but she belongs to the Barn Poets group at the Book Barn Hallatrow.
Hazel is a very busy lady, but still finds time to attend the Mendip storytelling group, of which she is also a member. She said : “ We meet once a month in Chewton Mendip village hall., where we have two hours of stories and cups of tea/ coffee – and I usually manage to be one of the storytellers.”
She said : “ I also play with the U3A ukelele group, which calls itself Crazy for Uke, and we do concerts for any groups around the area who invite us to play. Any donations go to whatever charity the Norton Radstock U3A are supporting in that year.” It was a very enjoyable evening and we all wish Hazel great success with her fundraising and fun events.
